In September 2004 I attended a bear retreat in Fredericksburg, Texas.  It was given by the Bear Artist Guild (affectionately called the BAG ladies and men).  This group is made up of artists from all over the world including Australia, New Zealand, Finland, Germany, just to name a few.  There were twenty-five artists in attendance at the retreat.  We had a lot of fun; learned a few new tricks;  and got to meet some new faces as well as some artists I had met before.  All in all it was a great time!

During this retreat there were six competitions with two categories each--under 5" and over 5".  I entered two:  Home on the Range Over 5" and Wildflowers Over 5".  Let me brag a minute.  Not only did I win first prize with both entries but my Wildflowers (prickly bear cactus) won "Overall Favorite".  I was floored and very honored to be judged the best by a very distinguished panel and chosen the favorite by the many talented artists that attended the retreat.

Here are my entries.

At the "Who Let The Bears Out" show in Ruidoso, New Mexico, in August 2004 I entered a design a Smokey the Bear Contest.  I was a co-winner and our entries were housed in the Smokey the Bear Museum in Capitan, New Mexico, for one year.
